PCMA Conference and Celebration Event round-up

On behalf of the Private Capital Markets Association of Canada,

We thank you for your support of the 2018 Celebration Event & PCMA Conference!

Our events, held at the Arcadian Court on April 11th & 12th, were tremendous successes, thanks to your participation.

We hope that you found the PCMA Conference, “Setting the Pace for the Private Capital Markets,” informative and inspiring. The primary goal of this conference was to bring together industry professionals as well as friends and partners from around the country in an open forum, under one roof to discuss new and exciting developments, challenges and solutions facing the private capital markets.

Influencers, innovators and disruptors, most certainly joined forces at the 2018 Private Capital Markets Conference! We had many firsts: a national industry celebration of the NEMA PCMA merger; two motivational speakers; three outstanding keynote presentations; one premier partner spotlight; two feature presentations; two PCMA presents and an ambassador's address! You can revisit the agenda and speakers’ bios at the conference website PCMA Canada Conference and Awards.

The pre-conference event on April 11th, had tremendous energy thanks to Michael “Pinball” Clemons’! He provided the right amounts of glitz, glamour and team spirit needed in order to celebrate our industry unification.

The 2018 PCMA conference on April 12th, featured over one dozen separate and wide-ranging panel discussions on everything from understanding industry DATA, regulatory outlook, corporate governance, crypto-currency, alternative investments, compliance network and OM.

In an exclusive engagement from the UK, global-market pioneer, UN diplomat, former executive board member of World Economic Forum, Theodore Roosevelt Malloch, chairman and CEO of The Global Fiduciary Governance LLC, opened our morning with a very in-depth look at the future of Canadian capital markets within the global economy.

With his one-of-kind style, elder statesman, Thomas Caldwell provided a masterclass on alternative investments with his talk on “The Ascendency of Private Equity.”

Four-time Olympian Heather Moyse graced us with her presence and presentation. Her inspiring talk, Unlikely but Possible, was well received by all attendees. Her two-time gold medal haul was on display, with lots of photo-ops! Click here to view her message to you!

And LIVE, all the way from NYC, crypto asset investor, and co-author of “Crypto Assets: The Innovative Investor’s Guide to Bitcoin & Beyond,” Jack Tatar provided an animated and timely breakdown of bitcoin and blockchain.

Other speakers and panellists included leading experts in corporate tax, P3, fintech, real estate and a special section dedicated to diversification for DRs. And we really wowed the crowd with an emotional and controversial look at cannabis. Alan Park, comedian, cancer survivor and medical marijuana advocate delivered an inspirational, funny and deadly-serious personal journey. It was followed by a top industry leader, Tim Saunders of Canopy Growth and a panel discussion that left the audience empowered and educated.

  1. David MacNaughton provided attendees with his insights into the future of Canada-U.S. trade relations. And together with Bruce Croxon, co-host of The Disruptors on BNN TV and DMZ board member, closed the conference with a candid and powerful fireside chat regarding the southern flight of capital and investments.

We believe that our diverse and dynamic group of speakers and panellists provided in-depth insight, as well as actionable and practical tools of engagement models, methods and mechanisms that could be utilized by the over 400 industry members that attended the event.

Attendees came from across Canada, from all aspects of the industry. If you haven’t seen the 2018 conference trailer, have a look at now! As in previous years, the PCMA was able to offer continuing education credits from the Financial Planning Standards Council for conference participants. Those who attended earned 8 CE credits!
